1. Inquirers

Students nurture their curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. They know how to learn independently and with others. They learn with enthusiasm and sustain their love of learning throughout life.

In AHIS, we encourage students to ask questions to reach clearer and better understandings. This learner profile – alongside the rest – is embedded in our practices all throughout, which helps develop our students’ personalities, capacities, and responsibilities. We also offer it in more stark activities, such as Sharks X, which is a debate competition that not only improves public speaking skills, but also learning through inquiring. We put them in situations that provoke questions in their mind, which fills them with wonder, curiosity, and enthusiasm towards learning.

2. Knowledgeable

Students develop and use conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across a range of disciplines. They engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.

In AHIS, we emphasize the importance of conceptual knowledge all throughout our practices, including real-life activities such as MUN, JAC, ECE, BYE, and STEAM, all of which lead to understanding and knowledge in disciplines.

3. Thinkers

Students use critical and creative thinking skills to analyze and take responsible action on complex problems. They exercise initiative in making reasoned, ethical decisions.

In AHIS, we integrate this learner profile attribute in every subject, every program, and every activity. Our students regularly practice literature analysis, financial literacy, and problem-solving, within and alongside activities such as Shark Tank, BYE, ECE, and STEAM. All of these help the students grow up to be problem-solving thinkers with a clear thought pattern.

4. Communicators

Students express themselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways. They collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups.

In AHIS, we encourage creativity, individuality, and self-expression through day-to-day classes, in addition to activities, such Sharks X, a debate competition, and Shark Talks, a speaking competition. We also weave the importance of communication and careful listening through lessons and respectful teacher-student relationships. We also integrate group collaborations and engaging discussions in more than one language.

5. Principled

Students act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and with respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere. They take responsibility for their actions and their consequences.

In AHIS, we instill principles into our students from an early age and watch them grow up to be accountable, honorable individuals who take care of their school, their environment, and the people around them. These principles extend beyond the school campus and are meant to be implemented seamlessly into their personal lives and relationships.

6. Open-Minded

Students critically appreciate their own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others. They seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and they are willing to grow from the experience.

AHIS prides itself on its diverse community: students and staff from different backgrounds and different nationalities. This exposes our students to different cultures, histories, values, and traditions, which in turn makes them open-minded and understanding. We also have Diversity Day, which is dedicated to exploring the diverse backgrounds in our school, contributing to the open-mindedness of our students. In addition, we celebrate many national days, such as Jordan national day and Lebanese Independence Day, where they learn about each other’s cultures.

7. Caring

Students show empathy, compassion, and respect. They have a commitment to service, and they act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around them.

One of the most important things in AHIS is the implementation of community service and communicating its significance. Our students must complete at least ten hours of community service as per their graduation requirement, which leads them to caring about their community and their environment. We also promote empathy in many assemblies, workshops, wellbeing activities, etc.

8. Risk Takers

Students approach uncertainty with forethought and determination; they work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. They are resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change.

In AHIS, our students are taught financial literacy early on, so that by the time they have an understanding of money and business ideas, they take part in competitions both internally and externally, such as Shark Tank, BYE, ECE, Injaz, and Trade Quest – all of which require a studied amount of risk taking. Students are encouraged to move from their comfort zones and develop a growth mindset by going through a variety of challenging new experiences and situations.

9. Balanced

Students understand the importance of balancing different aspects of their lives—intellectual, physical, and emotional—to achieve well-being for themselves and others. They recognize their interdependence with other people and with the world in which they live.

In AHIS, a balanced education is part of our mission, and we constantly and continuously practice that throughout the year. Students are offered education both through academia and activities, which aid in their learning and cares for their intellectual, physical, and emotional well-being. There is a wide variety of extracurricular and recreational activities that the students can choose from and participate in, while focusing on their academics at the same time, thus providing them with a balanced education.

10. Reflective

Students thoughtfully consider the world and their own ideas and experiences. They work to understand their strengths and weaknesses in order to support their learning and personal development.

In AHIS, we encourage on-going reflection in every aspect: in every lesson, in every project, in every action, and in every activity. We recognize the importance and positive effect of acknowledging work done and reflecting on it to solidify its learning outcomes. Students are encouraged to practice reflection and self-assessment to identify areas of strength and areas of improvement and set future goals.
